There are many other communities close to Asheville that have a lot to offer. Head north and you pass through Woodfin and then into Weaverville . Weaverville has a quaint downtown main street and a country feel while still being only a 20 minute drive into downtown Asheville. Heading a bit further north you get to the town of Marshall. The French Broad River flows through the center of town and forms an island where you will find an old school that has been converted into artist studios. Head west out of Asheville and you come to Candler, Waynesville and Sylva. Waynesville has a thriving downtown and beautiful close range mountain views. Western Carolina University is located in Sylva. Hendersonville is to the east and has an adorable downtown and is a popular place to retire. Brevard is another great small town to the south that is known for its amazing waterfalls, white squirrels, hiking, mountain biking and national forests.
